Companies could buy a bunch of mills, set each one up for a single operation, and after dropping the part in the fixture, the operator would just have to move the lever back .

WEBJul 11, 2005 · It was a manufacturing setup used for a slotting operation in aluminum. This was evidenced by the TONS of aluminum chips that were on it and the hydraulic table drive conversion. The Benchmaster was a VERY popular small scale manufacturing mill and had the advantage of simplicity and possible high spindle speed over the Atlas.

WEBJan 23, 2015 · Here's the color I am using Alpine Green, which is an engine color used on HD diesels. It is pretty close to the original color, though a bit brighter. Kind of an art deco color On the original, the spindle cover was painted offwhite. The "B" on the column was plain white originally. It was obviously brushed on.

I would like to change the shop made spindle to a spindle with a quill to be able to use small drill bits without using the up feed on the mill. I've read somewhere that a Rusnok mill head will fit these small mills.

WEBJun 12, 2007 · I've learned that once it's in place, that weight is a big advantage. It stands solid as a mill should, not skipping about like a dancing partner. I still love my first mill, the Benchmaster, had it thirty plus years but I haven't used it since I got the 1 mill. Have fun either way and post pix either way.

WEBApr 18, 2021 · I have the complete setup also, but since I also have a "real" horizontal mill, I have never used it. It probably "works", but I don't like the Benchmaster setup for horizontal. The spindle goes in the "ram clamps", and a fairly light, thin casting clamps on the spindle housing between the clamps to hold the overarm. Does not seem very stiff.

WEBJan 16, 2010 · Paying Attention Is Not That Expensive. The Benchmaster is a neat little machine and quite capable. It came in several variations, horizontal and with a vertical head. The MV1 designates a vertical mill, the vertical head might have gone missing, and just the horizontal capability remains. Does the mill have power feed, manual or lever .

WEBFeb 13, 2010 · Mill Fully Converted to CNC. I currently have many tools in my shop. My favorite one is the CNC mill I built from an old 1954 Benchmaster mill. It's heavy duty and very rigid. It works excellent and I run it with Mach3. Original mill before CNC conversion. The mill is old and uses worn out ACME lead screws. This is not ideal for a CNC .

WEBJun 12, 2013 · There is considerable difference in size. One has a 6 X 26 table, the other is 8 X 30. The difference between the two that really makes a difference is vertical clearance. Another import machine to look at is the Industrial Hobbies manual mill, which has a 9 1/2 X 39 1/2 table. A machine of considerable capability.

WEBJan 20, 2008 · The Benchmaster is one of many small bench milling machines that were made in seemingly large numbers after the war. Many of them came out of the southern California area. If uses it the way it was intended, for light cuts, smaller cutters, and higher speeds, they are a fine mill and very nicely made.
